As part of the Global Science Gallery Network, the museum required a cost-effective, energy-efficient lighting system that could seamlessly adapt to various exhibitions and events. To meet these needs, Afterglow Controls implemented Casambi wireless lighting controls, providing a smart, flexible, and user-friendly lighting solution that enhances visitor engagement while optimizing energy efficiency. 

 

A Multi-Functional Space with Advanced Lighting Solutions 

Located at the Melbourne University Carlton campus, the museum spans two levels, featuring: 

  • Café & Bar Area – A welcoming space with ambient lighting for relaxation. 

  • Art Gallery & Exhibition Spaces – A dynamic environment requiring adaptable museum lighting design to showcase artwork and scientific displays. 

  • Learning Areas – Lecture halls and theatres equipped with intelligent lighting control to support various educational programs. 


By integrating smart wireless lighting solutions, the museum gains seamless control over brightness, color temperature, and zoning, ensuring the perfect lighting conditions for each space. 


Precision Lighting for a Dynamic Experience 

The Science Gallery Museum utilizes cutting-edge IoT lighting systems to create immersive experiences: 

  • Exhibition Spaces: Over 1,200 luminaires, including RGBW linear light fittings, provide vibrant general illumination. Integrated track lighting offers adjustable, energy-efficient lighting to highlight artwork and installations. 

  • Lower Ground Learning Spaces: Curved linear luminaires create a continuous, evenly distributed lighting effect, while their modular design allows for dynamic zoning and smart lighting automation. 


Seamless Execution & Enhanced User Experience 

From design and commissioning to installation and programming, Afterglow Lighting worked closely with electricians, system integrators, and museum staff to deliver an intuitive, responsive lighting control system. The result? A state-of-the-art, wireless smart lighting system that enhances user experience, energy efficiency, and operational flexibility.
