Martin Bevz
Design Manager at Afterglow Controls
Martin’s career in lighting began in the early 2000’s, lighting up stages as a roadie for events, touring and theatre. He rose through the ranks—from Systems Technician to Head of Lighting and Production to Director—giving him a solid foundation in wired and wireless lighting, staging, rigging, power distribution, and audio-visual systems.
Martin holds a Master's in Architectural Science (Lighting Design) from Sydney University. His career includes roles at Mirvac, whereas Senior Lighting Designer he worked on multi-residential and commercial projects valued up to $1B. And, as Illumination and Project Engineer at LVX Global, he managed the development of Smart Building and Smart City projects from concept to completion.
As Design Manager at Afterglow Controls, Martin oversees product selection and system design, ensuring projects not only meet but exceed client expectations. His work emphasises sustainability and innovation, focusing on enhancing user experiences and delivering cost-efficient solutions. Martin’s technical acumen and customer-centric approach are integral to Afterglow Control’s mission to deliver exceptional lighting solutions.
Our Beginning
Founded in 2016, Afterglow Controls evolved from a vision to seamlessly integrate Casambi’s smart lighting solution into everyday spaces. LED technology was well established in the market, offering high efficiency at competitive costs, and we saw the potential to enhance these benefits further through intelligent control systems.
Casambi's exceptional wireless Bluetooth capabilities made it a standout lighting control solution, especially in situations where traditional cabling was restricted or undesired.
But embracing new technology is never without its challenges.
Our Challenges
We observed that initial interactions with Casambi were somewhat difficult and daunting for many first-time users, which led to frustration and a generally negative experience.
And there was a notable absence of support to help users overcome these frustrations.
So, recognising this significant gap in the Australian market, we set out to: simplify Casambi’s adoption, instil confidence among users, and enhance accessibility for all professionals.
In addition, we want to extend our support by upskilling electricians and contractors so they can commission their own projects independently.
